Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)

What Are Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)?

Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) are the fundamental self-care tasks required to manage one's basic physical needs. The six basic ADLs are eating, bathing, dressing, toileting, mobility (transferring), and continence.

Why ADLs Matter

ADLs are a key measure of a person's functional status and independence. Doctors and insurance plans, including Medicare, use ADL assessments to determine a patient's eligibility for services like home health care, physical therapy, or placement in a long-term care facility.

How Mira Mace Can Help

If you or a loved one begins struggling with ADLs, it's a sign that more support may be needed. A Mira Mace advocate can help coordinate an official assessment with your doctor and use that information to secure necessary benefits and services covered by your Medicare plan, such as in-home care or assistive equipment.
