COBRA Insurance

What Is COBRA Insurance?

COBRA (Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act) is a federal law that allows you to temporarily keep your employer-sponsored health coverage after a job loss or another qualifying life event. While you get to keep the same plan, you must pay the full premium yourself, which is often very expensive.

How Long Does It Last?

  • Up to 18 months for job loss or reduction in hours.
  • Up to 36 months for dependents after events like divorce or the death of the covered employee.
