Competitive Bidding Programs

What Are Competitive Bidding Programs?

This is a Medicare program that sets prices for certain types of Durable Medical Equipment (DME). Suppliers submit bids to provide equipment in specific geographic areas, and Medicare awards contracts to the winners. Beneficiaries in that area must use these contracted suppliers for the equipment to be covered.

Why They Matter

This program is intended to lower Medicare costs. However, it can limit your choice of suppliers and may affect which brands or models of equipment are available to you.

How Mira Mace Can Help

Navigating the competitive bidding program can be confusing. Your advocate will find the contracted Medicare suppliers in your area for the specific DME you need. If you require a particular item not available from a contracted supplier, we can help manage the exception and appeal process.
